The State of Qatar participated in the work of the 60th meeting of the Technical Council of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), which was hosted by the State of Kuwait on Apr. 21 and 22.

The Qatari delegation at the meeting was headed by HE Chairperson of Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology (QGOSM) Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Al Musallam.

The participation of the State of Qatar in this meeting comes out of its permanent commitment to strengthening Gulf integration in various fields of standardization, in order to contribute to consumer protection and support exchange between the GCC countries.

The agenda of the meeting discussed a number of important topics, including following up the implementation of the decisions of the 59th GSO Technical Council Meeting, discussing a number of GSO presidency memos related to the fields of specifications and standards, conformity, communication and institutional services, and preparing for the 9th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs.

The meeting discussed the GCC Standardization Organization’s memos on the outputs of the 43rd and 44th meetings of the General Committee for Standards, where during the meeting it was approved to adopt 199 draft Gulf standards, approve 7 draft technical regulations, and recommend submitting them to the Ministerial Committee for Standardization affairs for approval as Gulf technical regulations, and the adoption of 9 technical amendments (typographical corrections) as international standards adopted by the Gulf.

The meeting also discussed the outputs of the Steering Committee of Metrology, and reviewed a memorandum on the Working Group formed by its members to discuss the project of updating the technical regulation Expiration Dates for Food Products.

In the field of conformity, the Council reviewed the memorandum of the presidency of the Gulf Standardization Organization on the draft Gulf technical regulation for electric vehicles, and a memorandum on the 100 most exchanged commodities among the GCC countries.

It also discussed the outputs of the Gulf Association for Laboratories (GCCLAB) and other topics related to the field of conformity. The meeting reviewed a memorandum on the final account for the year 2024, in addition to discussing the general framework of the strategic plan (2026-2030), and discussing the draft work of the 9th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs.

The meeting was attended by HE GSO President Eng. Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Hamad Al Mana, representatives of the member states, and a representative of the GCC General Secretariat.

On another level, HE the QGOSM Chairperson participated in the 21st meeting of the Board of Directors of the GCC Accreditation Center, which was held in Kuwait on Apr. 20.

The meeting discussed a number of topics, including the report of the Director General of the Center during the period from April 2024 to March 2025, and follow-up to the recommendations of the 20th meeting (E-Meeting dated October 10, 2024).

The meeting also discussed the memorandum of the General Administration of the Center on the internal regulations of the Center, the final account of the Center for 2024, and the training plan for 2025.
