QAFAC: Driving Qatar’s Petrochemical Growth
Qatar Fuel Additives Company, commonly known as QAFAC, plays a crucial role in Qatar’s strategic plan to diversify its petrochemical industry and strengthen downstream production. Established in 1991, QAFAC is a joint venture between Industries Qatar, OPIC Middle East Corporation, International Octane LLC, and LCY Middle East Corp. The company began its operations in 1999 and has since become a leading producer of Methanol and MTBE (Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether), utilizing the country’s rich hydrocarbon resources.
At its state-of-the-art facility, QAFAC produces 982,350 tons per annum (TPA) of Methanol and 610,000 TPA of MTBE. These products are essential to global industries and contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing harmful emissions in fuel. The methanol plant operates with ICI technology, while the MTBE production is based on UOP technology, ensuring QAFAC maintains its position as a reliable and high-quality producer.
