The State of Qatar participated Tuesday in the 163rd Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Permanent Representatives, held at the league’s General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo.
The State of Qatar’s delegation to the meeting was headed by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Egypt and Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the League of Arab States, Tariq Ali Faraj Al-Ansari.
HE Al Ansari told Qatar News Agency (QNA) the meeting paves the ground for the agenda of the 163rd Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Foreign Ministers due on Wednesday. HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi will chair the State of Qatar’s delegation to the session.
Al Ansari said in this regard that the agenda of tomorrow’s session includes items related to international peace and security, primarily the continued Israeli occupation of the occupied State of Palestine as the central issue of the Arab world and the ongoing aggression against the defenseless Palestinian people, including in the Gaza Strip.
There will be numerous resolutions on Palestine, along with other resolutions related to issues in Arab countries such as Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria. Other issues related to Arab national water security and the continued occupation of Arab lands will also be addressed. Development and economic issues related to Arab economic and development integration will also be discussed, along with administrative matters and nominations for positions, including those related to the State of Qatar.
His Excellency added the meeting will also address the diplomatic efforts undertaken by the State of Qatar, including, for example, joint mediation with the Arab Republic of Egypt to halt the Israeli aggression against the defenseless Palestinian people.
Ambassador Al Ansari indicated that there is also a Qatari proposal to establish a permanent committee on international humanitarian law within the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, with the aim of exchanging expertise and ideas and enriching legal issues related to international humanitarian law.آ
His Excellency concluded his remarks by noting that this session is also important in that it precedes the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and that there will be another round of preparations for this anticipated summit.
